Bone Marrow Involvement of Rhabdomyosarcoma from Unknown Origin

چکیده
A 16-year-old girl was admitted to the hospital suffering from severe back pain, night sweats, and weight loss for 3 weeks. On physical examination, she had multiple lymphadenopathies in the cervical, axillary, and inguinal regions. There was no organomegaly. Peripheral blood smear revealed no blasts or atypical cells. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate was 102 mm/h. All biochemical test results were within normal ranges, except for elevated lactate dehydrogenase enzyme and C-reactive protein. The bone marrow aspirate smear showed immature cells with vacuole and blue cytoplasm; these immature cells were considered as metastasis of a solid tumor (Figure 1). Excisional biopsy of the axillary lymphadenopathy was performed and the histopathological diagnosis was the alveolar type of rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). Work-up of the primary site of the disease was performed with whole body imaging. Cranial, neck, abdominal, and pelvic MRI results were in normal range. Thorax CT showed metastatic nodules in the

VISCERAL LEISHMANIASIS AS FEVER OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN
Visceral leishmaniasis is the second most common cause of fever of unknown origin in our study. This disease is not common in adults, although it's endemic among the pediatric age group. The majority of the affected individuals were young. High grade spiking fever, chills and splenomegaly were unique findings. Other common findings were neutropenia, anemia, abnormal liver function tests, st...
متن کاملPrimary alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma of the bone: two cases and review of the literature
BACKGROUND Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a malignant tumor of mesenchymal origin and comprises the largest category of soft-tissue sarcomas both in children and adolescents. From a pediatric oncology point of view, RMS has traditionally been classified into alveolar (ARMS) and embryonal (ERMS) subtypes. The anatomical localization of the tumor may vary, but commonly involve the head/neck regions, m...
متن کاملIn vitro purging of human rhabdomyosarcoma cells using 4-hydroperoxycyclophosphamide.
The outcome of patients with advanced stage rhabdomyosarcoma is extremely poor, with a disease-free survival of less than 20% at 3 years. Autologous bone marrow transplantation for patients with Clinical Group IV rhabdomyosarcoma may be an effective therapy. The bone marrow involvement diagnosed by light microscopy is 29% for patients with advanced disease. The present study was performed to te...
متن کاملUnilateral Ptosis as Initial Manifestation of Acute Myeloid Leukemia
Abstract Background In Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), malignant clones of immature myeloid cells (primarily blasts) proliferate, replace bone marrow, circulate in blood and invade other tissues. The unique presentation of unilateral ptosis and unilateral eyelid swelling in AML has been reported during the present study. Case Report A 7-year-old girl was encountered with progressively increa...
